"I've been using your product for nearly a year, now, and thought I'd drop you
a line describing one particularly use I've found."
"I currently live in Massachusetts, USA (about a 45 minute drive west of Boston). I work as a Technical Support Engineer for a high tech start-up, and use various computer systems all day long. For fun, on the weekend, I enjoy playing "Role Playing Games" with my friends. These are like "Dungeons & Dragons" (the most popular one) among others. Just to be clear, on what I'm talking about, I've included some links below." Dungeons & Dragons (from Wizards of the Coast) http://www.wizards.com/dnd/ A collection of articles, links, product descriptions, etc. http://roleplaygames.about.com/ "Anyway, for one evening I was selected as the games "Referee" and needed to create a scenario for the other players to participate in. Because of the open ended nature of RPG'ing, keeping copious paper notes and trying to remember where I wrote what ... seemed ridiculous. I thought about using MS Word, or just NOTEPAD ... but I would have had the same problem. Either one very long file that I'd have to look through, or many small text files that I'd have to remember." "Instead, I used WhizFolders Pro. I was able to easily write a description for every character, scene, and imaginary prop - and hyperlink them together in a meaningful way. I would write a scene for the story referencing a character, and hyperlink that characters name to a detailed description of that character. I could also add links from the end of one scene to several other scenes and thus follow a sort of "story tree" depending on how the players reacted." "Though I experimented with adding maps (and since this was the PRO version and supported OLE 2.0, it was easy to draw a map in my favorite program and drop it directly into a topic) ... I did not end up with enough time to complete all of the necessary maps and descriptions." "Finally, on the day of the game, I pulled out my laptop and began the evenings game. The other players were thoroughly impressed with how prepared I was, and having details at my fingers, as we went kept the game flowing at a nice brisk pace. Also, I was able to open topics and add notes to reflect some of the changes that were necessitated by the players choices ... so that the whole project was being dynamically updated even while it was being used." "The game was a great success with the players, and if I ever again find myself asked to "referee" I will start with a WhizFolder!" "In summary, these are the features that I appreciated the most."
