New features, improvements and fixes:

  • New feature, Auto Text: Auto Text will save your typing time for often used words, phrases and even whole text blocks. All you need to do is make up a WhizFolder document containing your Auto Text mnemonics and their expanded text or text snippets. Then set this document as an Auto Text reference list. It can’t get easier than that, thanks to WhizFolders two-pane document design. For more details, please see the article Save on typing with the Auto Text feature.
  • In-place editor in View Outline: The View Outline feature in the Deluxe edition now allows editing in place for the contents of the topics. You just need to click a second time on any text to start a mini editor there. View Outline is also able to display check boxes now if the original document has check boxes switched on.
  • Pro Edition gets Keywords feature! The keywords feature is now available in the Pro Edition too. Earlier it was only available in the Deluxe edition.
  • Search now includes keywords too: Earlier when you used the Search pane on the right, it didn’t search through the keywords. You had to refer to Keywords Index separately. Now Search hits also display a line indicating whether the search text was found in Keywords assigned to a topic.
  • Advanced feature, specify Program in JumpFile link: Now you can specify a program to open the target document in a JumpFile statement. This feature will allow you to open a document with a specific program instead of the default set up in Windows. For example, you can open a web site in FireFox even if Internet explorer is your default browser. This needs knowledge of the internal format of the Jump links. For more details, please see the new version’s Help Index on “Program to use for JumpFile.”
  • Session abort detection and diagnosis, major effort: The rare RichEdit problem mentioned in the Blog article (http://whizfolders.com/blog/index.php/occasional-problem-message) continues in newer Windows versions too. WhizFolders can not really stop this from happening as it occurs the moment you paste some problem causing RTF from some other application (usually the browser) and WhizFolders doesn’t even get a chance to recover. Windows kills it due to stack problem in the RichEdit. Now WhizFolders detects such an abort in the earlier session and offers to diagnose it to pinpoint the exact document and topic with the wrong rtf. If you see this message too often, please try to use the diagnosis or contact us if you can’t fix it with the help of the diagnostics.
  • Editor’s right-click menu: This has been made shorter by combining all the link related menu items in a single top level item “Copy Link.”
  • HTML export fixed: The links were broken in the exported HTML. This is now fixed.
  • Desktop remembering: When multiple documents were open along with advanced editor windows during exiting, all were not remembered and sometimes unexpected errors occurred during closing them. This has been fixed.
  • Large topic handling: Some code has been introduced to detect if a topic becomes too large, causing a streaming error in Windows RichEdit control. Earlier, such a situation sometimes caused unexpected problems when that topic was selected. The problem was not raised by WhizFolders but rather Windows RichEdit itself when streaming the data. It is still not clear whether such streaming error appears due to the bug in RichEdit or Browser’s RTF conversion or something else. We could never duplicate this problem on our system. We have made this fix based on a few large topic cases submitted to us by the users. For any future updates on this problem, please keep a watch on this post.
  • Import Favorites: This has been improved so as not to truncate folder names.
  • Topic list links: When web site links were pasted directly in the topic list, the http prefix was removed. This is fixed.
  • Copy/paste of date: This sometimes caused the Insert Link screen to come up. Fixed.
